Welcome to Book Marketing Buzz, Dangerous Lee. Can we begin by having you tell us a little about your book?
Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down is a book of six erotic short stories with an emphasis on HIV education.
What is the first thing you did to promote your book once your publisher accepted your manuscript?
I am self-published. I used Create Space to publish my book. I had been promoting the book well before it was completed to create buzz and interest in the project by using social media to post snippets of the book and having giveaways.
If you had to pick just one book marketing tool that you’ve used to promote your book, which would you say has been the most effective?
Social media allows me to reach an audience that I would not be able to reach if I were just having book signings in my city or state, so I definitely think facebook, Twitter, and having my own website has been the most effective.
Do you do more promoting online or offline and which do you prefer?
I absolutely do more promoting online and I prefer to do so because I can reach a larger audience of people all over the world.
Do you use social networks such as Twitter and Facebook to promote your books and have you had any success with it?
Yes, and I believe that I have had success using social media. If not for social media, many people would have no idea who Dangerous Lee is!
Do you own a blog and how often do you update it? Did you set up your blog solely to promote your book and what is its effectiveness?
I have a blog at www.dangerouslee.biz that I update on a weekly basis, but I also have a blog specifically for my book at www.pantiesupskirtdown.com. I’m not sure that it has been very effective, but I believe that an author should separate give their projects their own “face time”.
Do you recommend authors getting publicists to help them promote their books? Do you have one?
I do not have a publicist, but I wish I did. I’m sure that if I had someone skilled to help me market and promote my book, especially as a self published author, that I would be selling more books.
If an author prefers to do it alone rather than hire a publicist, where should they start?
You have to do research and learn about what it takes to be a successful self published author. It really is a labor of love, but you have to have passion for it. You have to be on the grind promoting yourself and sending out review copies and press releases. I also use Blog Talk Radio to get myself interviews.
