Guest Blogger: Historical Fiction Author Douglas Carlton Abrams
Posted by pumpupyourbook on October 9, 2008
All authors dream of one day their book making the silver screen. I know I do and there’s plenty others out there who wish the same thing. For historical fiction novelist Douglas Carlton Abrams, that dream is a reality. In the near future, his book The Lost Diary of Don Juan will become a movie for us all to see.
Douglas will be all over the blogosphere this month promoting his book online via a virtual book tour set up by Pump Up Your Book Promotion. We are honored to have Doug stop by and tell us how he turned his book into a movie so that authors can hear it straight from the author’s mouth. BTW, if you’d like to visit Douglas’ website, go to www.lostdiaryofdonjuan.com.
Take it away, Doug!
Once The Lost Diary of Don Juan was sold to a publisher, a Hollywood film agent contacted my agent about the possibility of making my book into a film. It was one of those “pinch me, am I awake?” conversations, the type that you can’t really believe you’ve had even after you hang up the phone.
I flew down to LA for a couple of meetings with prospective producers—a rather exciting experience for someone who has never moved in film circles before. I even talked to one producer on the phone as he was flying back from Tokyo, where they were shooting a film he was producing.
Ultimately, I met J. Todd Harris and Marc Marcum of Branded Entertainment. They clearly shared my vision and passion for The Lost Diary, and had an exciting proposal for bringing it to the big screen. We are now in the process of finding a director and creating the screenplay.
