Our guest blogger for today is Cate Cavanagh, author of Her Godmother.
Hi! HER GODMOTHER was released in November, 2007. Promotion has been continuous as I am always looking for ways to bring attention to this book.
Firstly, I sent a promo pack to Barnes and noble to get it into the brick data base. This was a proposal along with a copy of my book and then I found out I was already there! My publisher, StarPublish, did a stellar job of making sure whatever was necessary to have my book in brick and mortar databases was done.
With this in mind, I began, and continue to do, a campaign with brick bookstores. I google bookstores in every genre that applies to HER GODMOTHER (fantasy, general, children’s, metaphysical, Pagan etc.) in every state. I then email the cover, my picture and a PR summary that gives all the information a bookstore requires such as the ISBN, store discount prices, that it is returnable and so on and so forth.
In addition, I do podcasts to generate a readership among listeners and have joined business networking groups that focus on getting information out on members’ products. I make it a point to blog, join groups with whom I share a common interest and who do not mind that I will brag from time to time. I take advantage of newsletters that offer free advertising and do interviews, such as those in concert with Pump Up Your Promotion (with Dorothy Thompson) as I receive frequent invitations.
Since there is literally no end to any list of promotional efforts I have just accepted that as many hours as possible are necessary to spread the word about my latest book, HER GODMOTHER.
